By 2010-03-08 13:47:57 UTC Massively popular online games distribution platform in the near future. Developer Valve Software plans to release native Mac versions of all of its games, including the upcoming and highly anticipated Portal 2, which it will release for Mac and PC computers simultaneously. Valve's first-person shooter games are among the most popular on the PC platform, and they include the entire Half-Life series, Team Fortress 2, Portal and both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2.
This announcement is no surprise; mixing Valve properties like Steam and Half-Life's Gordon Freeman in with classic Mac ad mock-ups. What's really cool and unexpected: When you buy a Steam game that's available for both Mac and PC, you're buying a license to the game on both platforms, so if you have a mix of PC and Mac computers in your life, you can play on all your machines. This month's issue of gaming enthusiast magazine Game Informer also reported that Portal 2 was coming to Mac and that a Steam beta for Mac was imminent. Now Joystiq is reporting that Valve has officially announced its plans.
We're not sure yet whether Mac and PC users will be able to play online together, but because the developer framework is so closely tied (as Joystiq reports) we wouldn't be surprised. Stay tuned for updates!
Between its fantastic game releases and wildly popular distribution platform, Valve has won the hearts of many PC gamers over the last few years. Mac users have long cried for support, and last week Valve. The company plans to introduce an OS X-friendly Steam client in May, along with games like Left 4 Dead 2, Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. In addition to some older titles, it would seem the sequel to 2007's Portal will for the Mac. Portal 2 was for Game Informer magazine a few days ago, and at the time, only cover shots were available.
More pages have now leaked, and one lists the platforms that Portal 2 will launch on: Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. You can view (scroll about halfway down for image links). Update: Valve has issued an and as it turns out, Steam and numerous Source games will launch on Mac in April, not May.
Additionally, select titles purchased for Mac or PC will be playable on both platforms free of charge via a new feature called Steam Play. Portal 2 is also confirmed to be the first simultaneous release for Mac and PC. Related Reads.
Hi, I know this is like the millionth topic on this, but I want to know if I can run it in decent quality and framerate on my mac. I've got the fall 2009 iMac: Specs: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB Anything else you need? So I was wondering if it would run well?
I want to be able to run it in native resolution so 1920 x 1080 I've also got bootcamp on my mac, so I could run it in windows, wich would increase, but i'd rather have it run well on mac Also, If I buy it, can I install it on both windows and Mac? (because if i pick mac and it turns out to run very bad, i would like to be able the then install it on windows).

Click to expand.I have the same setup as you, and I'm absolutely shocked at how horrible Portal 2 runs on my setup. I play for about 30 seconds and the game starts stuttering, the frame rate turns to slideshow (updating a couple times per second).
I'm assuming there's something weird going on, as other people who've played don't mention this. I submitted a report on Steam's site and will wait for their reply. I'm somewhat disappointed but have other things to do so am not consumed with rage. I don't actually expect much from Steam. I now remember the sequence of problems I had with Steam and Steam games about a year or so ago when it first came out. I had pretty much dropped Steam because of the issues (most of which were resolved) until Portal 2 came out.
I have the same question I own one of the new Xbox 360 Slim's (with the sweet glossy look) and you can see that our computers are almost identical. How is Portal 2 running on your machine and what are the settings at? Did you ever fix the camera bug? I wanted to buy Portal 2 on my Mac but if I can get a nice 60 FPS on Xbox for $10 more, I'd rather buy the smoother running game. Sure I won't be in the PS3 + PC + Mac + Steam Cloud online group but Xbox Live has a robust online community and I don't think I'd have a problem finding a partner to beat co-op with. Even the most advanced, murderous piece of artificial intelligence is going to have a few bugs, you know. The PC version of once had a few of these irregularities, but thanks to a patch launched this past weekend, it's now running with unprecedented smoothness. Well, okay, it still wants to kill and insult you, but at least it won't crash when you Alt-Tab out anymore.
There's a few other changes in there too, including expanded joystick support and a bunch of localization improvements. Also, is it just us, or is that blue portal just a little bit bluer? We don't see it in the full list of updates (posted after the jump), but we just feel it. Fixed: Occasional crash after Alt-Tab/minimizing or running in a window on certain graphics hardware.
Fixed: Crashes and/or graphical glitches after changing video settings without exiting game. Fixed: Player stuck at the beginning of Chapter 6. Fixed: Crash attempting to use other weapons (e.g.
